Introducing the Issue of Tissue

Today, we want to introduce you to our Issue of Tissue project. It is MYA Network’s most public project to normalize abortion, both medically and culturally. Together with The Guardian, we published the first accurate photos of pregnancy tissue removed during abortion, from 4-9 weeks. This was followed by an opinion piece in the New York Times.

It went viral. Today’s post will show the breadth of the project’s influence.

In the next weeks, we will explore many topics related to the Issue of Tissue, including the project's name. You’ll get an insider’s perspective on what motivated us clinicians to take our work as abortion providers into the public domain. We will give you medical background information to help you understand what you see. We will answer the most common questions that came from the project. We will address the backlash and controversy. You’ll hear the voices of patients who looked at their pregnancy tissue after an abortion. We will give our answer to the most frequently asked question: “Why did it take 50 years to publish accurate imagery of abortion?”
